Best Earth Day Events in Philadelphia and Surrounding

This weekend marks the celebration of Mother Earth and our neighborhoods are celebrating with a fantastic array of family friendly activities and festivals. We’ve picked out some of the best to educate our kids and celebrate our environment! If you have more, please add them below! Note: the weather is looking a little iffy this weekend so please do call ahead and make sure these are still on as planned.
Saturday, 4/21 Earth Day Events
Meet and greet real environmental scientists, experience some tools of the trade, and hear what some dedicated local environmental groups have to say at the Academy of Natural Sciences’ Earth Day Festival. As a bonus, the museum is half off admission due to the Bicentennial. Brandywine Zoo invites you to Party with the Planet and enjoy live entertainment, Earth Day games, stories, crafts and more. Help plant the vegetable garden and take home your own homemade herbal remedy at Tyler Arboretum’s Earth Day celebration, part of the Going Green Family Programs. Narberth is going green and hosts NarBEARTH Day. You are invited you to enjoy exhibits and activities promoting environmentalism and sustainability. Stop in for some arts and crafts fun at Blick Art’s Earth Day Kids Event in Center City. Get your face painted, make a recycled book mark, a mask and help create their Earth Day mural! And finally, while not specifically dedicated to Earth Day but certainly in the spirit of enjoying Mother Earth’s most beautiful creations, check out cherry blossoms at Morris Arboretum’s Cherry Blossom Festival and Spring Fun Day at Colonial Plantation.
Sunday, 4/22 Earth Day Events
Briar Bush Nature Center presents EarthFest and hosts an activity filled day complete with guided hikes, live animals and arts and crafts. WHYY is hosting an Earth Day Extravaganza with the Cat in the Hat. Take a picture with our favorite feline and learn about the environment alongside the Y Kids Club, Fairmount & Queen Village Art Centers, and Weaver’s Way Community Programs. Trees are TREEmendous at Riverbend Environmental Education Center where you’ll hear from tree experts, plant a tree, and create Earth inspired arts and crafts. Come nurture nature at Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. Bring your own flowers, leaves, twig, seashells and other found items to create at truly natural wonder.
