event spotlight: The Flea and the Professor at the Arden Theater

We were lucky enough to be guests for Opening Night for the Flea and the Professor at the Arden Theater on May 7th and what a night it was! Live theater might seem downright risky for the pre- Kindergarten set but we put it to the test! Needless to say, it passed with flying colors. Two 4 year olds, 90 minutes, and a wonderful story based on Hans Christian Anderson’s last story resulted in complete fascination (and quiet!), huge smiles, and a wealth of curiosity, questions and wonderful lessons in the importance of love, family and friendship. What was especially wonderful was the way the Arden translated a seemingly impossible set of theater challenges into a show that children could easily follow – they managed to create a jumping flea, an amazing flying hot air balloon, a sailing ship, an island filled with non-English speaking (and not scary) cannibals, and multiple circus acts all on one stage. The music was fabulous, the acting was wonderful, and the story was everything you’d expect when the greatness of the Arden meets an adaptation from the great Hans Christian Anderson. Our only warning? Be prepared to sing Gobble Gobble Choo! for many weeks to come.
Our drawing for free passes to the 5/28 or 5/29 shows of the Arden can be found here. For more information about the show and the purchase tickets, click here. The Arden Theater also offers a variety of theater classes and workshops for children of all ages.
