Happy Mother's Day Philly Moms! Top Weekend Activities for Families

Happy almost Mother's Day to all of our community! We hope you have some fun things planned for yourselves and the mothers/ mothers-to-be in your lives. If honoring thy mother is not quite your thing (gasp!), there are plenty of other fun events going on as well! This week, take in National Train Day, tea and teddy bears everywhere you turn, and lots of free admissions for moms! Weekend Spotlight:
Happy Expectant Mothers Day! Join other expecting parents for an ultimate pregnancy party at NEST! Mingle, learn, and enjoy your time exploring all the offerings in this action-packed afternoon. Includes food, swag bags, prizes, experts panel and more. It's a Family Fun Day in Bryn Mawr featuring carnival booths, moon bounces, games, prizes, music, and face painting and pampering opportunities for moms. Family Fun day benefits Family Support Services.
Saturday, May 12th:
Celebrate Mother’s Day with tea at The Betsy Ross House,Wayne Art Center, and The Little Treehouse in Chestnut Hill. Or with a Teddy Bear Picnic at The Garden State Discovery Museum.
St. Christopher’s Church in Gladwyne invites families to Azalea Day. This county fair includes free admission and parking, photos for mom, craft tables, face painting, sand art, homemade lemonade, a giant slide, tractor rides, food, and games for the kids. Event runs 10 am – 3 pm.
Friends School Haverford hosts their Spring Fair featuring food, carnival games, kids crafts, books, music and more. This event is rain or shine. Admission is free for those under 12, adults are $5. Event runs 11 am – 3 pm.
It’s the grand opening of Sister Cities Park at 18th and Logan. Filled with family-friendly activities, this grand celebration includes the chance to explore the new Children’s Discovery Garden, boat pond, and other park amenities. Activities run 11 am – 2 pm.
Celebrate National Train Day at 30th Street Station. Celebrating its 5th year, National Train Day locations feature live entertainment, interactive and educational exhibits, kids’ activities, model train displays and tours of Amtrak equipment, freight and commuter trains, and notable private railroad cars. Event is free and runs 11 am – 4 pm.
The Helicopter Museum in West Chester hosts a Family Fun Kids Fest. Families will enjoy a moon bounce, food, and helicopter rides for an additional $40. Event runs 11 am – 3 pm.
Sunday, May 13th:
Enjoy Mother’s Day with brunch at Franklin Square, lunch or dinner at Sesame Place, a ride on the Mother’s Day Express in West Chester, a Sunday tea at Color Me Mine in Wayne or at the Brandywine Zoo’s Wild for Moms! Day.
Celebrate Cinco de Mayo at Camden Children’s Garden. From crawling caterpillars and fluttering butterflies to lovely local birds, celebrate the Garden's most beautiful and important inhabitants. Learn about the live butterflies inside the Philadelphia Eagles Four Seasons Butterfly House; celebrate the return of Monarchs from Mexico and the Mexican traditional holiday. Cost is $6, under 2 are free. Event runs 1 – 4 pm.
Celebrate women’s contributions to the natural sciences with free admission for mothers to the Academy of Natural Sciences. Visit the Library to view rare treasures created by women during the past 400 years, meet our scientists, find out about scientific advances by women and make a gift for Mom. Activities run 10 am – 5 pm.
Make a mud pie for Mom at Tyler Arboretum’s Dynamic Dirt event. Dig some dirt, mix up mud and decorate mud pies in Tyler’s mud kitchen. Become a dirt detective and use a microscope to see up close what soil is made of. Meet the decomposers that help create great garden soil. Geared for ages 6 and up. Cost is $6 members, $8 non-members, pre-registration is required. Event runs 1 – 2:30 pm.
